[4 line introduction and 2 lines in Latin from Virgil.
Elegy on death of student at the Academy.]
My artless strains disclaim the tuneful nine;
'Tis streaming sorrow dictates every line,
An undissembled grief, and heart-felt woe,
Inspire that verse, and prompt my tears to flow.
. . . [62 lines]
Tho' the bold strains of lofty Maro's song
No longer roll harmonious from his tongue,
Sublimer lays inspire his towering thought,
And sweeter raptures swell his melting note.
